Test Head Description

The 6610 series of test heads combine in spindle form a Vibrac Optical Torque Transducer, an Optical Encoder, a Magnetic Clutch and a variable speed drive motor that is connected to the clutch through a worm drive system.

This combination of components enables these test heads to be used in both a loading mode and a driving mode.

In the loading mode, the worm drive system prevents the clutch from being back-driven and therefore it performs as a load brake.

In the driving mode, the clutch provides overload protection for the torque transducer.

The 6610DS-SD series of test heads were designed specifically for use with Vibrac's PC 3000 series instrumentation. This combination of test heads and instrumentation can produce turn-key systems for testing stepper motors, DC motors, brushless DC motors, actuators and other similar type components.

Model 6610 Test Head Specifications:

  • Torque Transducers: ±0.5% full scale accuracy
  • Position Encoder: 0.1 degree / 3600 pulses per revolution
  • Clutch: Magnetic Particle
  • Drive system: Bi-directional / Variable Speed (1 to 5 RPM)

These test heads combine in spindle form an optical torque transducer, an optical encoder and a load brake. This combination of carefully matched components provides for the testing of inertia sensitive devices such as stepper motors as well as conventional ac and dc motors.

Dynamometers are available with full scale torque capacities of 1 Oz-In to 320 in-lbs.

The Model 4600 Dynamometer and Load Control Instrument, which operates with the Model 4610 line of low inertia load brake test heads, is primarily used for testing stepper motors and features both manual and automatic load control.

  • When used in the automatic mode, the ramp control will increase the current to the load brake at the rate and level pre-set by the two front panel controls.
  • When testing small stepper motors, pullout torque is easily measured. The operator first pre-sets the load brake level and ramp rate. Then, by depressing the Stall button, the load will ramp to the stall point of the motor, and the digital display will show the stall torque. Pullout torque is displayed by depressing the Peak button, therefore showing the peak torque at which the motor pulled out of synchronization.
  • The Model 4600 instrument functions with all Vibrac Transducers.
  • A front panel unit selection switch allows the display to be switched to oz-in, lb-in, Newton-centimeters, or % of full scale.
  • A 0-10 volt DC analog output is provided on the rear panel for use with an analog/digital conversion card for importing data to a PC or laptop.

The complete system (instrument and test head) is accurate to ± 1% of full scale.

READOUT INSTRUMENT

Front Panel Description

  1. POWER – System power switch.
  2. TORQUE SET CONTROL – The ten-turn potentiometer is for setting torque load.
  3. RESET – The lighted push-button switch, when engaged, will reset the peak holding circuits.
  4. HOLD – The lighted push-button switch, when engaged, will HOLD or LOCK the digital torque display.
  5. PEAK – The lighted push-button switch, when engaged, will display peak torque from the internal holding circuits on the torque display.
  6. ZERO ADJUST – For setting the proper zeroing voltage for the transducer that is connected to the instrument.
  7. TORQUE READOUT – The 4½ digit readout is scaled to read torque in direct engineering units or in percent full scale.
  8. TRANSDUCER SELECTOR – The thumb wheel switch is for selecting corresponding transducer heads for use with this instrument and for selecting the engineering units to be displayed on the Torque Readout (English and Metric units).
  9. TORQUE – The lighted push-button switch, when engaged, activates the torque set control.
  10. OFF – The lighted push-button switch, when engaged, removes power from the load device on the test head.
  11. STALL – The lighted push-button switch, when engaged, will apply full load to the device under test.
  12. RAMP RATE CONTROL – The potentiometer is for setting the rate at which the load brake voltage is applied to the load (both torque and stall).

General Specifications

  • INPUT POWER – 115 v AC 60 Hz (optionally available 220 v AC 50 Hz)
  • DIMENSIONS – Height 9 in (23 cm) x Width 20.5 in (52 cm) x Depth 19 in (48 cm)
  • WEIGHT – Approximately 30 lbs (13.6 kg)

Digital Dynamometer Control Instrument Model 1054 PDF Print E-mail
  • The Model 1054 Dynamometer Control Instrument is designed for use with any Vibrac Dynamometer with digital speed option.
  • This instrument contains a 4½ digit readout for torque and a 5 digit readout for speed. Large (0.5 inch) characters provide for easy viewing.
  • A linear ramp, and ramp rate adjust, enables the instrument to control the load brake during a test cycle. The ramp is activated by the push of a button at which time the load will be increased from a minimum to a full load. By controlling the rate at which the load is applied, inertia induced errors can be minimized.
  • A peak detection circuit is provided for capturing peak torques.
  • The front panel selector switch ranges the instrument for use with the selected Vibrac Dynamometer.
  • One front panel control knob enables the user to zero the transducer. This process automatically establishes the span or calibration of the transducer to the instrument.
  • A 0 to 10 volt analog output proportional to the torque and speed is supplied on the rear panel for use with the auxiliary equipment including PC software applications, oscilloscopes and XY plotters.
  • A remote option package is available to facilitate external computer control of the instrument (consult factory for additional information).
